MEDCOM drives in hydrogen powered Solaris trolleybuses

MEDCOM will design and deliver drives for new trolleybuses with hydrogen fuel cells produced by Solaris for Riga.

These will be the first vehicles in Latvia equipped with a solution of this type. The contract between the Polish producer and the Latvian carrier, Rigas Satiksme, was signed in the first half of October 2016 and involves the delivery of 10 low-floor articulated 18.75-metre long Trollino trolleybuses.

All the trolleybuses will be equipped with fuel cells and batteries which will drive the vehicles on the sections of the route where there is no overhead contact line. The solution will be constructed so that the trolleybuses can cover a distance of up to 100 km. MEDCOM’s state-of-the-art drive system working together with the energy storage and the fuel cell will guarantee proper operation of the drive in any working conditions. The Trollino trolleybuses for Latvia’s capital will also be equipped with MEDCOM’s drive control.

The first hydrogen powered trolleybus will hit the streets of Riga around the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018.
