Let’s meet in Gdańsk at TRAKO 2025

This September, thanks to the International Railway Fair TRAKO, Gdańsk will once again become the railway heart of Europe. This year’s edition is of special significance, as it coincides with the 200th anniversary of global railways and the 100th anniversary of Polish State Railways (PKP). For nearly 40 years, Medcom has been actively contributing to the development of Polish and global public transport, delivering solutions that reduce energy consumption, lower vehicle operating costs, and at the same time meet the highest standards of reliability and durability.

Energy-efficient transport is our baSiC

The transformation of the European energy system, driven by the growing share of renewables and increasingly stringent environmental standards, requires new technologies in public transport. That is why this year’s TRAKO will be the perfect opportunity to present our cutting-edge, energy-efficient silicon carbide (SiC) solutions.

These include innovations for rail vehicles and urban transport, such as:

  • The first multisystem SiC converter for high-speed rail in Europe
A completely new design setting new benchmarks for the size and weight of high-power multisystem converters. It can operate with three UIC voltage types: 1500 VDC, 3000 VDC, and 1000 VAC, ensuring interoperability across European railway networks. Thanks to optimized dimensions, it can also be used in low-floor passenger coaches.

  • Auxiliary converters for rail coaches
Including units designed for sleeping cars manufactured for Kazakhstan, as well as converters supplied for metro systems in London and Amsterdam.

  • Propulsion system for trams
This solution, enabled by the advanced integration of a traction inverter, auxiliary converter, and an energy recovery and storage system, delivers energy savings of up to 40% in tram operations. It was first implemented in EN 140 trams operating in Warsaw.

  • DC/DC Converters for fuel cell systems
Converters for hydrogen cells used in electric multiple units, as well as in hydrogen buses and trollejbuses. The Solaris Urbino 18 hydrogen bus, equipped with a Medcom propulsion system, was awarded the title of Bus of the Year 2025.

  • Traction battery chargers:

Battery charger for PESA electric multiple units
Battery charger for metro cars manufactured by Kinki Sharyo for Cairo
Battery charger for Siemens Mobility’s US passenger coach platform, integrated within the Electric Equipment Box (EEB), powering passenger coaches and charging emergency backup batteries. Passenger cars equipped with this solution are already in operation in Canada and the USA.
