Marking 15 years of SiC technology! Medcom at InnoTrans 2026.

This year’s presence of Medcom at the InnoTrans international fair trade, holds on a special significance as it marks the 15th anniversary of the development of silicon carbide (SiC) technology. Today, more than 5000 urban transport and rail vehicles are equipped with Medcom’s energy-efficient SiC power electronics. We have installed nearly 40 000 SiC power modules, and 70% of our new projects are based on silicone carbide technology.

Powered by SiC. Engineered by Medcom.

From the beginning we knew that implementing SiC would require designing the new line of devices from scratch, rather than simply replacing silicon transistors with new components. We invested in the growth of our R&D department, engineering expertise and production facilities which has enabled us to implement ready made solutions efficiently. Our first silicone carbide-based product was ready within two years, and series production was launched six years later. Today, SiC power electronics is a market standard for Medcom, utilised in rolling stock and public transport vehicles across Europe, Asia and North America.

"Silicon carbide in power electronics devices delivers results that are unattainable with traditional silicon technology. This translates not only into exceptional energy efficiency, but also the reduction of equipment weight ans size, which gives vehicles designers significantly greater design freedom. On top of that come higher reliability and simpler maintenance, as SiC devices perfectly withstand harsh operating conditions, from extreme temperatures to prolonged equipment load" – says Piotr Wroński, Vice President of Medcom.

We will present our latest technological achievements in the energy-efficient power elctronics segment for transport this September in Berlin, during the InnoTrans 2026 international fair trade (hall 17, stand 255). Welcome to our stand, as well as to explore:

  • Battery chargers (SiC)
Battery charger for electric and diesel multiple units, locomotives and passenger coaches.
Battery charger for metro cars manufactured by Kinki Sharyo for Cairo.
Power supply unit for Siemens Mobility US passenger coaches, integrated into the EEB (Electric Equipment Box) that powers passenger coaches and charges backup power batteries. Coaches equipped with this solutions are currently in operation in Canada (VIA Rail) and in the USA (Brightline).
New power supply units for Pesa Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) manufactured for the Polish and Romanian markets.
  • Auxiliary power converters (SiC)
Auxiliary converters for Istanbul (1500 VDC), London and Amsterdam metro cars and for passenger sleeper coaches manufactured for Kazakhstan.
  • Energy-efficient propulsion system for trams (SiC)
A unique solution that saves up to 40% of vehicle energy through the smart integration of a traction inverter, an auxiliary converter, and a braking energy recovery and storage system. This technology was first implemented in the EN 140 trams for Warsaw.
  • Fuel cel DC/DC converters (SiC)
Next-generation converters for EMUs, built for markets including Germany.
Converters for hydrogen-powered buses and trolleybuses, implemented in vehicles such as the Solaris Urbino 18 hydrogen bus – winner of the prestigious Bus of the Year 2025 award.
  • Inverters (SiC)
Traction inverter for new metro cars manufactured by Bozankaya for Istanbul.
