How to Reduce the Operating Costs of Railway Rolling Stock? Medcom a Partner of the 2nd Conference “Regional Railways – Experience and Perspectives”

The dynamic growth in passenger numbers, combined with increasing environmental requirements, presents regional railway operators with new challenges related not only to launching further investments, but also to maintaining technical infrastructure and rolling stock. It is precisely the importance of regional rail in Poland’s transport system, along with the prospects for its further development, that became the main topics of the 2nd conference “Regional Railways – Experience and Perspectives.”

The event, organized in mid-January this year by the Polish Chamber of Railways, gathered several hundred participants in Kraków, including representatives of regional rail operators, railway companies, public institutions, and industry representatives working for the railway sector. Medcom became a partner of the conference.

- The condition of regional railways is of great importance for the future of the entire railway sector in Poland. Last year, nearly 250 million passengers used regional railway services. This represents approximately half of all passenger traffic in our country. These are connections that make our everyday lives easier, providing access to workplaces and schools. They also include new lines that eliminate transport exclusion, an example being the reopening of the railway line to Karpacz after 25 years. There are, and will be, more such investments in the coming years – Piotr Wroński, Medcom. - For years, Medcom has participated in the development of regional railways in Poland; every year we deliver propulsion systems and power electronics for new vehicles produced for regional operators. The conference in Kraków is an opportunity for us to better understand the needs of individual regional operators, but also to discuss how to effectively reduce the operating costs of railway rolling stock through the use of Medcom’s new technologies – SiC power electronics and braking energy recovery systems. Close cooperation between industry, local governments, and institutions is the best path toward creating an even stronger, cost-competitive, and passenger-friendly regional railway in Poland – Piotr Wroński, Medcom.
