New technologies in the service of ecological transport – Medcom about innovations and the future of railways

The aim of the conference ‘Rolling Stock – Purchase, Modernisation and Maintenance’ is to promote the railways as a sustainable, comfortable and safe means of transport. During this year’s jubilee edition, the participants paid special attention to the future of Polish railways, in particular rolling stock investments, modernisation and the maintenance of rail vehicles. In addition to the economic crisis caused by the current geopolitical situation in the world, the subject of the conference was dominated by the issue of increasing the competitiveness of railways in relation to other modes of transport, which the Polish government plans to implement by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Transport Development Strategy. An important role in the transformation of the Polish railways will be played by new technologies reducing the energy demand of vehicles. This topic was raised by Piotr Wroński who in his speech emphasised the possibilities of Medcom’s supercapacitor storage system, which allows to maximise energy recovery from braking. Participation in the conference was also an opportunity to remind about the 35th anniversary of Medcom, which currently employs 330 people and is one of the leading European manufacturers of innovative power electronics in silicon carbide (SiC) technology for rail, hydrogen, hybrid and electric vehicles. The use of SiC technologies provides up to 2.5 months of free use of the vehicle a year

For many years, Medcom has been implementing silicon carbide technology in subsequent projects. Medcom is one of the leaders in innovation in this field, thanks to which the devices offered by it, provide the advantage/s offered by new technology, guaranteeing a significant improvement in performance and energy efficiency. Today, over a thousand energy-efficient trams, e-buses, trolleybuses and locomotives with SiC technology from Medcom operate on European roads and tracks.

Medcom with an award for supporting rail transport

The culmination of the first day of the conference was a ceremonial gala, during which the Polish Chamber of Manufacturers of Equipment and Services for Railways distinguished its long-term partners, appreciating their substantive support. The title of the Chamber’s Reliable Partner in the company category was awarded to Medcom, on behalf of which the statuette was collected by Piotr Wroński.

Nearly 400 people attended this year’s 20th edition of the conference ‘Rolling Stock – Purchase, Modernisation and Maintenance’, including representatives of the manufacturers of rolling stock, railway carriers and entrepreneurs related to the industry who have been beneficiaries of EU programmes for many years.
